Officially Day 1-
We have spent close to a year preparing the property. Clearing trees for the driveway and attempting to get rid of a wood pile nothing short of two houses long, but were here. I never thought this day would come after a long drug out battle of trying to sell our house, figuring out financing, and the difficult decision of finding house plans, we made it! We initially purchased plans from Garrell and decided we wanted to build the Nantahala Cottage Gable. After taking the plans to a lumber company we decided there was no way we could afford to build that home, to our expectations, with rough lumber that cost upwards of $75,000 alone. Onward and upward we went! Spending time and money redoing the plans was not what we had planned initially, but we finally re did our plans based on a scaled down version and today, November 15, 2016 we began building 'OUR HOME' from the ground up.
To bring everyone up to speed we purchased the property in February 2016. It is a beautiful parcel of 13 acres, mostly wooded and a pond that sits out front of where the house will go. We built a barn in October 2016 and had a well installed this past week. They say this is where the fun begins and I can not help but be ecstatic; however, a little stressed over the process. Footings will be poured this Friday and the walls will be completed on Monday. After the walls have had time to cure our builder will begin framing in the house! We hope to have the house completely framed in by the week after Thanksgiving!
